The holiday season, for many, is a season of giving. Opportunities to give are everywhere, especially during the holidays — on radio, television, and social media, in the weekly bulletins at our houses of worship, on the walkways in front of our local grocery or department stores.

In our own small worlds, families and friends gather for cookie swaps and Yankee swaps. Co-workers exchange gifts and small tokens of appreciation following a year of hard work. In our neighborhoods, folks are conducting random acts of kindness — paying for the coffee for the driver behind them, and the recipients are paying the gesture forward.

People are choosing to donate their gently used items rather than discard them. Websites and Facebook pages are popping up all over, providing us with opportunities to make monetary donations to causes that touch our hearts in a special way — a GoFundMe page for a family who encountered a tragedy or an individual whose medical bills are overwhelming.

Let us now take a moment to consider the recipients of our gifts. In doing so, we should quietly reflect on the real positive impact we are making on “the world that we touch,” and perhaps commit to continuing, and possibly even increasing, these positive gestures throughout all the beautiful seasons we are so blessed to experience here in New England.

So, my New Year’s message for 2022 is to be the good you want to see in the world — your world. It’s a reminder we share frequently at Fidelity Bank as we go about our mission of helping clients get where they want to be. Use your unique talents and abilities “to improve the world that you touch.”

Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!
